Pantone Color of the Year 2025: Mocha Mousse

Each December, designers, artists, and creatives around the world wait with anticipation for Pantone’s announcement of the Color of the Year. More than a trend, this annual choice captures the mood, aspirations, and collective spirit of our global community.

For 2025, Pantone selected Mocha Mousse 17-1230 — a color that embodies “thoughtful indulgence” and reflects a sophisticated yet approachable spirit.

Why Mocha Mousse?

Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute, describes Mocha Mousse as a shade that transforms the perception of browns from humble and grounded to luxurious and aspirational.

It’s a color that whispers calm strength while offering a sense of comfort. Soft yet strong, it represents a balance many of us are seeking in business and in life.

For me, as a brand designer, Mocha Mousse feels like an invitation:

  • To embrace simplicity without losing elegance.
  • To ground ourselves in authenticity while still aspiring toward growth.
  • To bring warmth and approachability to spaces that might otherwise feel too sharp or minimal.

The Role of Color in Branding

Color is never just decoration. It creates immediate connections, evokes powerful emotions, and influences how a brand is perceived and remembered. The right color palette can:

  • Establish trust with your audience.
  • Differentiate you in a crowded marketplace.
  • Amplify your brand message and values.
  • Create a cohesive experience across all touchpoints.

Mocha Mousse, in particular, offers brands a chance to infuse a sense of grounded luxury — warm enough to feel approachable, rich enough to feel aspirational.

How to Use Mocha Mousse in Your Brand

If you’re considering a brand refresh or rebrand, incorporating a trending color can be inspiring. But it’s important to do it thoughtfully and strategically. Here are a few ideas for Mocha Mousse:

  • Accent Color: Use it alongside neutrals like ivory, cream, or soft taupe for a calming, sophisticated palette.
  • Contrast Partner: Pair it with deep emeralds, blues, or muted pinks for an elevated, luxurious feel.
  • Foundation Shade: Use it as a grounding base in your design — backgrounds, textures, or packaging.

The key is ensuring it complements your brand clarity (your values, vision, and personality) before it becomes part of your design.

My Take

I love that Pantone gave brown a luxurious moment this year. Too often, browns are dismissed as plain or utilitarian, but Mocha Mousse shows us how depth, softness, and richness can coexist in one beautiful shade.

For women entrepreneurs, it’s also a metaphor: strength and beauty don’t have to shout. They can be subtle, grounded, and still command attention.
